25-Year-Old Woman Killed in Hempstead Crash

A Lakeview woman died after the car she was riding in collided head-on with another vehicle in Hempstead early Saturday, police said.

According to police, a 33-year-old man and 25-year-old Diamond R. Hawkins were riding in a 2015 Nissan Altima that was heading west on Front Street in the vicinity of Orchid Street when the Nissan crashed into an eastbound 2004 Mercedes Benz at 12:28 a.m.

Hawkins was transported to Mercy Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 2:53 a.m. The 33-year-old man, who police did not identify, complained of knee and leg pain and was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 59-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital and treated and evaluated for complaints of pain, police said.

An investigation is underway to determine who the driver of the Nissan was, police said.
