A robbery in West Hempstead, gun shots in Lakeview and an arrest of a Malverne man for illegal firearms sales were among the crimes in this week's blotter.

  • Bank Robbery in West Hempstead: Detectives are searching for the culprit of robbery that occurred Thursday night at the Capital One Bank in West Hempstead. According to Nassau County Police, a black male subject entered the bank, located on Hempstead Turnpike, around 5:45 p.m. and displayed a demand note to the teller. After obtaining an undetermined amount of cash, he fled the bank in an unknown direction. Eight employees and three customers were inside the bank at the time the robbery occurred, but no one was injured. The suspect is described as a male black, 35 years old, 6 feet tall, with a thin build. He was wearing clear glasses and a dark hooded jacket. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
  • Five Arrested After Gunshots in Lakeview: Five young men - three from Hempstead, one from Lakeview and one from West Hempstead - were arrested Thursday after gunshots were fired in the area. Police responded to a home in Lakeview, where three gunshots were reportedly heard, and saw the five men running out of the woods and into a car, in which they fled the scene. After a car chase and a foot chase, the cops tracked down all five and charged them with criminal possession of a weapon. for the full story.
  • Malverne Man Nabbed in Gun Shop Probe: A Malverne resident and former village trustee candidate was among nine gun shop owners and employees who were arrested for selling illegal assault weapons. Andrew Chernoff, who owned Coliseum Gun Traders in Uniondale, faces up to seven years in jail. for the full story.
