The intersection of Poplar Street and Hempstead Turnpike was the site of another serious accident Thursday evening that left three people injured.
Two cars slammed into each other at the intersection and the impact sent both careening in different directions. Two occupants of one vehicle and the driver of the second all required medical treatment and were transported to nearby hospitals by West Hempstead Fire Department and Nassau County EMS ambulances.
Firefighters also worked to clean up a spill from the crash and clear the roadway of debris.
This intersection has been the site of numerous accidents in the past including a three-car collision in April 2012 and another in March 2011 that injured four people. In May and June of 2011, two young pedestrians were injured and a third was killed after they were each struck by cars at this crossroads on separate dates.
