Malverne School Board Agenda: Dec. 11

See what the Board of Education will be discussing at tonight's meeting.

Malverne School Board Agenda: Dec. 11

The Malverne Board of Education is holding its monthly business meeting tonight at 8 p.m. in Malverne High School.

While about half of all Long Island school districts have cancelled some or all of this year's scheduled February vacation days to make-up for lost instructional time due to Superstorm Sandy, including Lynbrook and West Hempstead, the Malverne school district has yet to do this.

However, the Malverne school board will be considering a resolution tonight to designate Feb. 19, 20 and 21 as instructional days. Also on the agenda is an agreement with the Malverne Teachers Association to modify the length of school days for a portion of the 2012-13 calendar year.

The Board of Education will also be voting to accept the 2011-2012 audit report, certify evaluators for its new Annual Professional Performance Reviews of teachers, and to approve a contract with the Franklin Square School District.

The board will also vote to approve donations of books and other supplies to be sent to nearby schools impacted by Superstorm Sandy.

Superintendent James Hunderfund will recognize a number of students during tonight's meeting for their recent achievements in music, sports, community service and in the classroom.

The board will also have a first reading of its revised Buildings Use policy, which prompted some debate at last month's meeting. There will also be readings and adoptions of two other policies.

The full agenda can be viewed above.
