More Trains, Less Booze for New Years

LIRR announces New Years Eve 2014 policies and schedules for Long Island party-goers.

More Trains, Less Booze for New Years

2014 will start with extra trains and restricted drinking on Long Island Railroad.

MTA and LIRR announced extra trains in both directions will be added to the normal schedule on New Years Eve.

Party-goers will get the choice of 20 extra trains on the Babylon, Montauk, Ronkonkoma, Port Jefferson, Port Washington, Long Beach, and Hempstead branches.

After the ball drops, 18 extra eastbound trains will be added between 12:35 a.m. and 4:19 a.m. on the Babylon, Ronkonkoma, Port Jefferson, Port Washington, and Far Rockaway branches.

While thousands will flock in and out of New York City for the big celebration, drinking will be restricted on most LIRR property.

"In the interest of safety, and to maintain orderly travel to and from New Year's Eve events, alcohol will not be allowed on LIRR trains, stations or platforms," MTA said.

The policy will be in effect from 12 p.m. Tuesday to 12 p.m. Wednesday. MTA Police will enforce the policy, they said.
