Nassau Notebook: Countdown to Arena Vote, Free Movie Nights

A weekly look-in at the news of Nassau County.

Nassau Notebook: Countdown to Arena Vote, Free Movie Nights

The following is a look back at some of the top stories in Nassau County over the past week:

Residents to Vote on New Hockey Arena, Ballfield

After spirited debates among supporters and opposers of Nassau County's referendum on borrowing $400 million for a new hockey arena and minor league ballpark, Nassau voters will head to the polls on Monday to determine the project's fate.

Be sure to check out Patch's "5 Things You Need to Know Today" on Monday morning for information on the referendum.

Thursday Night Movies at Eisenhower Park

Spend a night outdoors or go see a movie?

On Thursdays at Eisenhower Park, you can do both.

Residents of Nassau County are invited to attend the free movie nights, held every Thursday beginning at dusk. The movies are shown at Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre (near parking fields 6 and 6A). The sloped fields make it easy to see the screen over people in front of you, but there are no seats, so bring your own or a blanket.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Aug. 4 — "Justin Bieber Never Say Never"
  • Aug. 11 — "The Wizard of Oz"
  • Aug. 18 — "Green Hornet"
  • Aug. 25 — Iron Man 2
  • Sept. 1 — Twilight
