A Valley Stream man was arrested Thursday night after police discovered that he had been engaged in a sexual relationship with a minor who he had been giving guitar lessons to, police said.Yoel Gonzalez, 27, worked at Bracco Music Center in 2009 when he began giving lessons to a 13-year-old girl, police said.
The lessons were usually held inside Bracco’s, but eventually Gonzalez and the girl began to socialize outside of the music center, located at 236 Rockaway Avenue in Valley Stream, police said.
Gonzalez, who ended his employment with Bracco's, continued to give lessons to the girl privately in her home, police said.
After two years of providing the girl with guitar lessons, Gonzalez, who was 24 years old at the time, initiated a sexual relationship with the girl, who was then 15, police said.
The relationship continued for approximately two years, police said. Information regarding the relationship surfaced, police said, and Gonzalez was located and placed under arrest without incident.
Gonzalez is charged with third degree criminal sex act and third degree rape. He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.
Detectives are attempting to identify other possible juvenile victims with regard to Gonzalez and are asking anyone with information to call the Special Victims Squad at 516-573-4022.
