Cops searching for suspect who robbed East Rockaway convenience store.

Nassau County Police are still searching for the man who robbed an East Rockaway convenience store using a handgun late Tuesday morning.

According to detectives, a 56-year-old man working at Card Corner, located at 93 Main St., was approached at 11:18 a.m. by a white male who displayed a black handgun and demanded money. The victim complied, and the suspect then fled on foot southbound on Rhame Avenue with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The victim was in the store alone at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported. The suspect is further described as 6-feet tall with a slim build, wearing a blue sweater with a hood over his head, a white scarf over his face, dark pants and a blue and white baseball cap. 

Detectives ask anyone with information about this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.

The incident put two East Rockaway public schools -- Rhame Avenue and Centre Avenue -- on lock down and Lynbrook public schools under a "lock out." The "lock out" was lifted for Lynbrook schools shortly after 1 p.m., according to the district's website, which stated, "We have been informed that it is safe to resume normal activity."
