A West Hempstead firefighter was honored by Nassau County at the Annual Firematic Awards.
County Executive Ed Mangano bestowed awards on Robert DiMonda of West Hempstead Fire Department and Ex-Chief Frank Morris of Lynbrook Fire Department for their dedication to the community.
“It is times, such as Superstorm Sandy, where your courage shines but it is everyday heroism that personifies our Nassau County Firefighters,” said Mangano at the ceremony. “We gather today to honor our brave first responders who have gone above and beyond the call of duty and consistently risk their own lives to protect our Nassau County residents. Heroism, courage and sacrifice are just three words to describe their dedication. Each and every day, firefighters wake up and respond to emergencies with a single goal: protecting the public, rarely with concern for their own safety.”
