West Hempstead School Board Agenda: July 10

See what the Board of Education will be discussing at Tuesday's meeting.

The 2012-2013 school year will officially begin for the West Hempstead Board of Education Tuesday night at its annual reorganization meeting.

There, a new board president and vice present will be selected for the year and will be sworn into office. The board will also re-appoint the district clerk and secretary, deputy district clerk and district treasurer, as well as several other positions for the upcoming year including auditors, purchasing agents, public relations, the board's legal counsel and the district's medical inspector.

The board will also approve which trustees will serve on various committees and liaison positions for the year, and vote on the designated news publications and banks the district will utilize.

Following the reorganization meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the  videoconference room, the board will hold its July business meeting. This meeting will include an update on negotiations with the teachers and administrators unions regarding the new, state-mandated Annual Professional Performance Review plan that will be used to evaluate faculty members. Superintendent John Hogan also plans to discuss the district's summer programs and the construction work taking place at some of its facilities.

The board will then vote on several contracts including one with the board's legal counsel, and the sixth grade Frost Valley field trip, among other items.

Staff and residents of West Hempstead and Island Park will be given two periods for comments.

You can view the complete agendas above. Look for coverage of the meetings on Patch later this week.
