Person Found Dead After Medford House Fire

The fire broke out in the garage of a vacant home early Monday, police say.

A person was found dead inside a car in the garage of a vacant Medford home that went up in flames early Monday morning, police said.

Fifth Precinct patrol officers responded to 110 Maple Street after a 911 caller reported a fire in the garage of the home at 1:57 a.m. Members of the Medford Fire Department extinguished the fire and the body of a person was found inside a car in the garage.

The body was transported to the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner to determine the identity of the victim, police said.

The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating the circumstances of the person’s death. Preliminary investigation has determined the cause of the fire to be non-criminal in nature, police said.
