Fatal Crash Monday on Route 9W involved Jeep, Tractor Trailer and 2 Other Vehicles

State police report a four-car fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on State Route 9W in the Town of Esopus at 4:30 pm. May 9.

William W. Johnson III, operating a 2001 Jeep Cherokee south on St 9W crossed over the center line and struck a tractor trailer travelling north on St 9W. Johnson’s vehicle came to rest in the southbound lane and was struck by a third vehicle. A fourth vehicle was damaged by debris from the impacts.

Johnson, 48, was pronounced deceased at the scene and transported to Kingston Hospital. State Route 9W was closed for several hours for the collision reconstruction investigation.
