The Long Island Sound Sharks held their annual awards brunch at East Wind in Wading River Sunday and were honored by the community and elected officials.

The youth football league serves about 300 football players and 150 cheerleaders in the Miller Place, Sound Beach, Rocky Point, Shoreham and Wading River areas.

“The Sharks Program has become a proud tradition on the North Shore,” said Assemblyman Dan Losquadro said. “The coaches, volunteers and board members do a great job of not only helping the children in our communities develop their athletic abilities, but also teaching them life skills such as teamwork and dedication. I would like to congratulate all the Shark football players and cheerleaders for participating in a program that helps bring so many residents from our communities together.”

Along with Losquadro, Legislator Sarah Anker and Councilwoman Jane Bonner were there to honor the members.

“I am very proud of the Long Island Sharks participants, parents and volunteers,” Anker said. “Through this program, our children are learning vital lessons in teamwork, respect and sportsmanship.”

This is the organization’s fifteenth year in the community.

"We had a great season,” said Charlie Agius, Long Island Sound Sharks President. “We recognize that in order for the Sharks to be successful, it takes everyone working together and I look forward to another great season next year.”

“As an elected official and resident of the North Shore, I am happy to know that we have a local organization as great as the Sharks where everyone supports each other,” Bonner added.
