Rocky Point Pitching Prospect Garnering Attention at Yankees Camp

In his first Major League camp with the New York Yankees down in Tampa, Fla., pitching prospect Dan Burawa, a former Rocky Point Eagle, has caught the attention of Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman.

According to a report in Newsday, Cashman said while discussing the importance of player development, "Who's to say Burawa's not another [David] Robertson with the power arm he's got?"

Burawa, a 12th round pick in 2010, made his mark out of the bullpen at St. Johns after transfering there in 2009 from Suffolk County Community College. In his one year at St. John's, Burawa had a 1.02 ERA with one win and eight saves, 27 strikeouts and eight walks through 18 innings over 23 appearances.

During his time at Rocky Point, he earned three letters playing baseball for the Eagles. Burawa was a two-time all-league selection and earned all-county and all-Long Island honors as a senior. During his junior year, he threw two no-hitters.

According to Baseball America's scouting report on the 6-foot-3 righty, his fastball clocks in between 93-95 mph with a slurve (combination curveball and slider) that he throws at around 75-78 mph.
