6 Nabbed in Alleged Drug Ring, Including Brookhaven Employee

All six suspects accused of dealing cocaine and oxycodone, including a Brookhaven Town employee and a former NYPD officer, are set to be indicted, according to the Suffolk County district attorney.

Among the suspects are Brookhaven Town Highway worker Thomas Forkin, 30, of Miller Place, and former NYPD officer Thomas Gironda, 44, of Setauket. Forkin is accused of dealing drugs to his co-workers. He is being held on bail of $350,000 cash or $750,000 bond and will face multiple drug charges Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Details of the year-long investigation of accused ringleader Forkin and his co-conspirators will be given at a press conference in Hauppauge Thursday morning, District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

Two other men were charged along with Forkin: Lake Grove resident Anthony Perretta, 30, and Johnny Vargas, 30, of South Setauket. The three are each charged with fourth-degree conspiracy, a felony.

“Among Mr. Forkin’s customers were other town highway workers,” Spota said in a release, "and there is considerable evidence he bought and sold drugs on town time and from town-owned highway department vehicles.”

Gironda, free on $250,000 bond, is charged with second-degree conspiracy and will appear for arraignment with his codefendants on Friday in Riverhead.
