Keep Miller Place clean, help Girl Scouts in a food drive and remember those lost to addiction.

Weekend Planner: Belonging Tree Dedication, Miller Place Cleanup

When/Where: 9 a.m. Saturday at the Sylvan Avenue Park parking lot.

Why Go: Join in on the Great Brookhaven Cleanup right in Miller Place. In the Sylvan Avenue parking lot at 9 a.m., all involved will meet up to distribute supplies: bright t-shirts, bags, gloves and grabbers. You may have an area near your home or one you drive by that needs to be cleaned. This is the time to pitch in to get it done. As reported by the Town's Management department, the 2011 Cleanup attracted 6,800 volunteer registrants

If you would like to participate please contact Kathy Rousseau at 631-473-0943 or Karmac@aol.com so that sufficient supplies will be available. If you're interested but not available that day any alternate date is fine before May 31st.

Why Go: Help Girl Scouts all over Suffolk County stock up local food pantries for this summer. The event is held to collect and stuff as much non-perishable food items into a bus to benefit families in need. There will also be a bus to stuff at the King Kullen in Mt. Sinai.

When/Where: 2 p.m. Sunday at the .

Why Go: The North Shore Youth Council and the family of Gabe Phillippe, a former Rocky Point High School student, invite you to join them in remembering the life of Gabe and others who may have left this life because of a substance abuse addiction. Fr. Frank Pizzarelli will preside over a tree dedication service in Phillippe's memory and others who have lost someone due to addiction, or who have family or friends struggling with addiction, are encouraged to bring a picture of their loved one to the ceremony.
