Levittown school district plans to pilot own program after seeing Mineola.

Island Trees Schools Observe Mineola iPad Program

The Mineola School District’s iPad program is garnering more attention from other schools over Long Island. Recently, representatives from the Island Trees School District in Levittown visited classes to observe students with the Apple-branded devices in action.

According to the Levittown Patch, Island Trees Middle School Principal Roger Bloom to the Island Trees Board of Education that the district could implement the program in their own district.

“There’s so many things it can do educationally for students,” Bloom said. “Some of the programs are fascinating, like an application where you can cut and paste different texts to make your own textbook. They can be very beneficial. One of the schools is banking on a plan where software companies will eventually release textbooks and the cost savings down the line could pay for the iPads itself.

The district is planning a “pilot” program similarly in the way that Mineola : putting the device into the hands of a pair of elementary classrooms.

Since the iPad’s introduction in Mineola last year, the program has with this year.
