Kevin P. McDermott, Esq. of Amityville, Long Island passed away on April 9, 2013 due to complications of diabetes at the age of 63.
McDermott was born on March 29, 1950 in St. Albans, NY to Marie and the late Brendan McDermott. He graduated Chaminade High School as a member of the Class of 1968 and also received degrees from the University of Dayton and St. John's School of Law.
Former aide to State Senator Norman J. Levy, McDermott was also a former Nassau County assistant district attorney and a Past President of AOH Division 15 and the Tara Pipe & Drums and a former firsst vice-president of Irish Americans in Government.
He is survived by his wife Patti (Nee Kretz), sons Padraic (Jenn), Kieran, Regis and daughter Kathleen, grandchildren, Fiona & Henry. Brother to Kathy, Theresa (Bill), Susan (Greg), and Patty (Robert Kirrane) and survived by severalnieces and nephews.
A wake will be held on Thursday, April 11 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and on Friday, April 12 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home, Inc., 67 Broadway (Rt. 110) in Amityville. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church, Amityville with interment at St. Charles Cemetery.
