Martins Appointed to Commerce Committee

The state senator to head Commerce, Economic Development, and Small Business Committee.

Martins Appointed to Commerce Committee

Sen. Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) was named Chairman of the Senate’s Commerce, Economic Development, and Small Business Committee.

The committee oversees and develops legislation regarding business tax credits, economic development, business regulations, and growth incentives affecting businesses throughout New York.

Martins understand the “ importance of small businesses to our local communities and he has been a leader in expanding our efforts to help them grow and create new jobs,” Senate Co-Leader Dean Skelos, R-Rockville Centre, said Thursday, in a statement that announced the appointment.

Martins is widely credited for leading downtown revitalization projects  in Mineola, where he served as mayor.  He completed a master plan for Mineola, incorporating  smart growth and transit-oriented development concepts to help bring more people into the downtown area and boost foot traffic for area businesses.

“Looking forward to building on the progress we've made and continue to reduce business costs so that businesses can grow, develop, and create jobs,” Martins wrote on his Facebook page.
