Mineola High School Hosts Third Annual Climate Change Workshop

For the third year in a row, Mineola High School recently hosted a presentation for all students from the Alliance for Climate Education, an organization that promotes the education of climate changes and global warming to all schools across the country with the hope of sparking even a small change among students, their families and thecommunity at large.

An ACE representative spoke to students in grades 8-12 in a workshop that used real-world events, including the recent Hurricane Sandy, to illustrate points about the truth behind climate changes and their effect on areas around the globe.

All students were encouraged to create a DOT – Do One Thing – that they could do in order to reduce theircarbon footprint. They were also asked to encourage every member of their family to do the same.

Last year, Mineola High School won the Greendependence Day Challenge and receiveda $1,000 grant through ACE and the National Grid Foundation for its efforts to help theenvironment.
