Mineola Lions Donates $7K to Developmentally Disabled, Long Island Bombers

The Edward Smith Mineola Lions Club recently made donations totaling $7,000, including $5,000 to the Center for Developmental Disabilities, Inc. (“CDD”) to support their work with the developmentally disabled.

CDD’s mission is help children and adults with differing abilities achieve their dreams by overcoming barriers to living, working, learning and enjoying recreational opportunities in the community of their choice.

The Lions Club also donated $2,000 to the Long Island Bombers, a “Beep Baseball” team for the blind and visually impaired. The team plays competitive and exhibition games against other visually impaired teams in the metropolitan area

A major focus of the Lions organization is to assist those with visual impairments, and the Mineola Club is a regular donator to the Guide Dog Foundation, Sight and Sound Foundation, and other organizations.

Lions Club members Matt Schwagerl, Bruce Chester and Steve Spucces presented the donations at the Center for Developmental Disabilities Dinner to CDD Executive Director Nick Boba, CDD Director of Development Deborah Patey, along with Club President Ray Sikorski, Lion Tamer Peter Gold, Treasurer Mike Schwagerl, Lion John McDonough, Club Secretary Rich Nicolello and past club Presidents John Broder, and Joe Bosnack.
