Mineola Residents Urged to Avoid Halloween After Sandy

Mineola Fire Department to distribute popcorn balls door-to-door.

Mineola Residents Urged to Avoid Halloween After Sandy

The Village of Mineola is asking parents to stay inside for Halloween 2012.

In an e-mail sent out from the village, parents are being “strongly urged not to take children trick-or-treating today because of the risks that may be posed by downed wires, trees and damaged property, and the absence of street lighting.”

Instead, the Village of Mineola announced that the Mineola Fire Department will go ahead with its annual Halloween Popcorn Ball distribution.

Volunteers will be going street-by-street this evening to hand out popcorn ball treats to Mineola youth.

The village encourages all families with young children to take advantage of this safe and fun alternative to traditional trick-or-treating.
