New Cassel Man Struck Neighbors With Metal Rod During Argument: Police

One man was hit in the stomach and the other was hit in the head Thursday night, police say.

An argument between neighbors caused a New Cassel man to hit two people with a metal landscape rod Thursday night in New Cassel, police say.

According to authorities, William O. Diaz, 23, was involved in a verbal argument with two male neighbors, ages 18 and 24, in front of his home when the argument escalated into a physical one at 6:58 p.m.

Police say Diaz struck the 18-year-old with the metal rod in the stomach and then struck the 24-year-old in the head. Both men suffered lacerations and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Diaz was placed under arrest without incident. He was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon.

He will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
