Man Airlifted Off Fishing Boat Near Montauk Point

He was having chest pains and in and out of consciousness, the Coast Guard says.

MONTAUK, NY — A fisherman was airlifted off a vessel near Montauk Point Sunday afternoon, according to the United States Coast Guard.

A USCG boatcrew medically evacuated the 50-year old man from the fishing boat Sunday afternoon, a release said.

At 4:10 p.m., watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center received notification that a crewmember aboard fishing boat Blackhawk was experiencing chest pains and in and out of consciousness, the USCG said.

The command center watchstanders briefed the flight surgeon who approved a medevac and launched a rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Montauk aboard a 47' motor life boat, the USG said.

At 4:40 p.m., the rescue crew arrived and transferred the man to awaiting emergency medical services at Station Montauk; EMS then brought the man to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, officials said.

The man’s last known condition was serious, the USCG said.
