Bailey Announces Candidacy for the 36th Senatorial District
The Bronx community leader and advocate held a press conference Wednesday.
Today, Jamaal Bailey, attorney and Democratic District Leader, has kicked off his candidacy for the 36th Senatorial District, representing Mount Vernon and part of the Bronx.
He is running for the seat being vacated by longtime state Sen. Ruth Hassell-Thompson. She was just appointed as Special Advisor for Policy and Community Affairs of New York State Homes and Community Renewal by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. She will begin her new role in July.
“Other than the few years away at college, this district is home,” Bailey said in a press release. “I know the struggles of this district because as a young father, I have faced many of them myself. I believe in the tremendous power of working together for change—and that’s why I'm running for State Senate."

I have seen his effectiveness first hand, during the last several years I have watched Jamaal and I admire his tenacity and commitment. Not only is he dedicated, Jamaal has the skills to lead on efforts that will transform the Bronx."
