Industrial Fire: Mount Vernon Firefighters On The Scene
Mount Vernon FD is on the scene of a major fire at the J. Bass & Son scrap yard on S. Columbus Ave. The street remains closed at the scene.
MOUNT VERNON, NY — Firefighters have responded to an industrial fire at J. Bass and Son salvage near South Columbus Avenue. Ladder trucks are on the scene and police are diverting traffic away from the area. Dispatchers answered the call to a "heavy fire" before 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
The fire is described as under control. Crews remain on the scene, using a foam fire retardant to extinguish the blaze.
J. Bass and Sons is a scrap metal and demolition firm founded in 1922 according to the company's promotional materials. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far.
