It’s vacation time, but what to do about man’s (or woman’s) best friend? There’s a new business called Paws Around the House, Inc. started by Nanuet‘s Deb Wanke.
Wanke started her pet and house sitting business on Feb. 4.
“We will offer pet sitting in your home or ours. We can house sit for your pet or just your house and offer grocery restocking when you’re away on vacation,” she said. “I have been researching and setting it up since September of last year. The idea came to me as two fold. One - I have been a pet owner and sitting for other peoples animals for most of my life. The second was my mobile dog groomer (The Good Life, also based in Nanuet) suggested the idea to me as she said that people who are her clients ask all the time for a sitter.”
Wanke is not a stranger to hardships, but was able to find her silver lining.
“(This) opportunity presented itself last September when I was laid off from my company that I had worked for 27 years,” she said. “During the down time I thought I would get this business started. I truly believe that there is a need for a pet sitter that is bonded and insured.”
Wanke’s current area covers Nanuet, Pearl River, New City, West Nyack and Orangeburg and she has a few things in the works, such as a phone number, Facebook page and a website, which she plans to have ready by the end of March.
