Snow Causing Few Problems On Roads

The Nanuet School District has cancelled all after-school and evening activities including the School Age Care program (SAC) at Miller and Highview elementary schools, the Barr Middle School After School Program, athletic practices and events and Continuing Education programs.  There will be no late buses.

The high school Winter Concert scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled to Wednesday at 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory that is in effect until 4 p. m.  Snow accumulation of two to five inches is expected with locally higher amounts possible. Visibility may be reduced to less than a half mile in brief bands of moderate to heavy snow.

Rockland County Highway Superintendent Charles “Skip” Vezzetti estimated the snowfall at three inches in the southern part of the county and an inch and half in New City. He said crews were out salting the county roads on Monday night.

“Our roads are black and running, no problems,” said Vezzetti. “We were way ahead of the curve on this (storm).”

He said the county’s 170 miles of roadway were prepped early on. Vezzetti said he does not expect much more accumulation.
