Watch Live Stream: Giraffe Gives Birth At New York Zoo
LATEST: April the giraffe is happy and healthy as she waits to give birth to her calf.
Update: In a Sunday morning update, zoo officials said April the giraffe is alert and attentive and is not showing any signs of discomfort.
"You will notice on our live feed, a lot of positioning in her hips, belly movements, and stutter stepping. This could be attributed to significant movement of the calf inside...baby is big," the zoo wrote.
The zoo said it would not announce active labor until calf hooves are visible. Naturally, giraffes hide signs of labor, the zoo explains. This is because they believe a new calf is vulnerable to an attack.

The final stage of labor, however, is a quick process and can be as short as 30 minutes.

April the giraffe is about to give birth at an upstate New York zoo and thousands are tuned into the zoo's live feed on YouTube to watch the birth.
The video was shut down earlier by YouTube because of "sexually explicit content." Jordan Patch, the zoo's owner, addressed the matter on the zoo's Facebook page. Patch said the cam went down due to a "handful of animal activists and extremists."
He said that kicking the livestream offline had removed an educational tool from the web. The feed was back up shortly thereafter.

"Keepers have reported the continued shedding of the wax caps on April's teats, increased belly movement, and a bit reluctant to go into the giraffe yard," the zoo said in a Saturday morning update.
