Clarkstown Students Journey To Japan

23 Clarkstown North and South High School students are traveling to Japan for two weeks.

Clarkstown Students Journey To Japan

Clarkstown North and South High School Japanese Teacher is leading 23 students on a two-week tour of Japan. Their 13.5-hour nonstop flight from JFK Airport left Sunday. Their destination is an airport outside Tokyo. Uchiyama is keeping family, friends and New City Patch updated on their trip.

This is the first installment, which was relayed by her husband.

Minasan konnichiwa! (Hi everyone!)

The bus made great time to JKF, arriving about 10 a.m.

The flight was delayed just over 90 minutes, evidently the result of a fuel system error message.  According to Delta's website, the flight left at 3:47 p.m. so whatever the issue, it was sorted out.  The flight is projected to arrive in Narita Airport about 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, 7/2, about 80 minutes later than scheduled (about 7:15 a.m. our time tomorrow morning).

Hopefully the rest of the flight will be uneventful, and everyone can get some sleep along the way (I'm not always successful in doing this myself, but when I've been able to sleep for most of the flight to Japan, I've found it immensely helpful in reducing the effects of jet lag).

Anyway, hope you all have a good evening and a good start to the workweek tomorrow (if some of you are taking some days off, enjoy them!).

I'll be back with an update no later than tomorrow night.
