Fire Department Finishes Breezy Point Collection Drive (VIDEO)

The New City Fire Department wrapped up a donation drive to collection supplies to bring to the victims of Superstorm Sandy at Breezy Point Friday night.

The drive started last Saturday, and New City Fire Chief Kenny Flynn said the department had already completely filled three 36-foot trucks with food, cleaning and hygiene supplies, diapers, baby food, pet food and more. He anticipated that after packing up Friday night, the department would have at least four full trucks. Flynn added they collected a few monetary donations, totaling about $300 for the storm victims as well.

The trucks come courtesy of a volunteer member of the fire department, who owns a printing company. Flynn said that member of the department is paying to use the truck service he uses to deliver items for work to drive the supplies to Breezy Point Sunday morning. Flynn said about 20 members of the department and volunteers are going to drive up as well to held unload.

Members of the Clarkstown Police Department also collected $2,130 in order to purchase mops, brooms and cleaning supplies, as well as pet food and pet treats. The police department also donated blankets, food and more to the drive.

Flynn said the fire department didn’t just receive donations from locals, though. He said donations came from outside of Rockland, and even outside of the state, including from New Jersey and Rhode Island. He added that people from California, Georgia and Ohio e-mailed in to ask how to help.
