The electronic sign that usually advises motorists about construction on New Hempstead Road now alerts to parking availability behind the county courthouse for Sunday’s .  The fair, the first of two this year, begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m., rain or shine.

While the 140 vendors won’t arrive until 7 a.m. on Sunday, crews are cleaning up around Kevin Landau Park at the intersection of Congers Road and South Main Street.  New City Chamber of Commerce President Steve Weissblatt said everyone has taken the less than favorable weather forecast into consideration.

“Vendors all have tents,” he said. “There’s no cancellation. It’s a rain or shine event.”

Weissblatt said they have rented a tent with three sides that will cover the platform the three bands will use. The bands will be situated at Kevin Landau Park and begin performing at 11 a.m.  Chairs and tables will be set up for fair visitors to enjoy the music.

Weissblatt said the last street fair in September attracted 5,000 people.  The Clarkstown Police Department and Auxiliary Police will have officers assisting with the event.

The street fair along South Main Street will cover from Congers Roads to Third Street. In addition to the lot behind the courthouse, parking is available along Maple Ave, in a municipal lot on First Street and the town hall parking lot. The chamber has planned a second street fair for September 2.
