Clarkstown police are seeking the public’s helping in finding a New City woman who may be considering doing harm to herself.

Denise Gruffi, 57, of 15 Ann St., left home about 7 a.m. to go work, but she never made it there. Police said the woman’s husband found a note that led him to believe Gruffi might hurt herself.

Clarkstown police are searching the Ann Street neighborhood with police dogs and the county’s emergency helicopter has also been brought in to assist with the search. Police said they confirmed Gruffi did not make it to her workplace and she has not been seen in that area.

Gruffi is a teaching assistant at Link Elementary School in New City. Gruffi is 5-foot-6, about 165 pounds with blue eyes and reddish brown hair. Police did not have a description of the clothing she was wearing today.

The Rockland County Sheriff's Department mounted unit is assisting with the search. Deputies were riding in the area of Red Hill Road. At Link Elementary School, the campus was open this afternoon and children were walking home — some of them watching as police searched the neighborhood and the emergency helicopter flew overhead.

Gruffi left home on foot and was not believed to be using a car, however, police are now looking for a white 1995 Honda Civic owned by a family member that Gruffi may be using.

Police ask that anyone with information about the missing woman call them at 845-639-5800.
