Bridge construction and culvert work continues into November

By the end of Friday a new bridge spanned the on New Hempstead Road.  The pre-set concrete sections were installed throughout Thursday and Friday.  Work continues on the bridge for the next two weeks to meet the November 16 deadline set by the Rockland County Highway Department for the bridge to open for traffic.

The county’s contractor for the New Hempstead Road reconstruction project released the two-week work schedule through Friday, November 4.

  • Waterproof Demarest Kill Bridge: October 24 – October 28
  • Demarest Kill Bridge east side med. stone fill and footing backfill: October 24 – October 28
  • Demarest Kill Bridge west side med. stone fill and footing backfill: October 24 – October 28
  • Backfill Demarest Kill Bridge: October 24 – November 4
  • Gas line work from Little Tor Road to Demarest Kill Bridge: October 24 – November 4
  • Segmental wall footing and wall installation: October 24 – November 4
  • Retaining wall: October 24 – November 4
  • Little Tor west side sheeting and pour walls: October 24 – October 31
  • Hoover Lane diversion pipe: October 25 – October 27
  • Hoover Lane traffic pattern rerouting: October 28
  • Excavate and set Hoover Lane Culvert: October 31 to November 4
  • Erosion, silt fence and tree grubbing as needed
