September 11 Memorial Services Planned

On the 11th anniversary of the attacks, remembrance ceremonies are planned for this morning and early evening along with an afternoon service project.

September 11 observances are scheduled for this morning at and in and later in the day at Clarkstown and Orangetown town halls. A special program will be held at Dominican College. All services are open to the community to attend.

Rockland Community College officials will dedicate the 9/11 Memorial Garden in an hour-long ceremony beginning at 8 a.m. The service will include the dedication of a sculpture created from four pieces of steel remaining from the World Trade Center.  Rockland County Poet Laureate and RCC Professor Dan Masterson will recite “Out of the Blue.” Student veterans will read the names of victims of the attacks with connections to Rockland County. 

At 8:30 a.m., Rockland County officials will hold a service at the 9/11 Memorial in Haverstraw Bay County Park. The names of county residents who lost their lives will be read.

. Participants will create art in memory of September 11 in an event open to the public from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Lawrence Room at Rosary Hall, which is located on the Dominican campus at 480 Western Highway in Orangeburg. 

Beginning at 5 p.m., the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Clarkstown Town Hall, includes town officials reading the names of county residents who died on September 11, 2001.

At 6:30 p.m., at Orangetown Town Hall, Clinical Psychologist Dr. Judy Kuransky will discuss the importance of marking an anniversary of a tragedy. The ceremony includes the reading of the names of county residents and music.
