UPDATE: Search Continues for Library Director, Trustee Nominations Expected

At the September meeting of the New City Library Board, trustees voted to extend the acceptance of trustee applications until October 5.  The nominating committee is expected to recommend candidates at tonight’s meeting. Four applications had been received previously and no more were submitted during the extension.  The board will also discuss voting procedures for 2012.

Three trustee seats are up for election in December. Trustee Ed Kallen said he is running for re-election.  Trustee Terri Thal decided not to seek another term. Aney Paul, who held the third seat, who resigned in August. Christian Cortelli was appointed in September to finish the remainder of her term.

Board members will also get an update on the executive director search. The search committee had received 20 resumes as of the September meeting. According to Tom Ninan they were going to meet and review the applicants in order to narrow the field to three.

Interim Director Marianne Silver will discuss the improved Wi-Fi access throughout the building. As part of her director's report, she will tell the board that an engineer inspected the crumbling brickwork on a column and peeling paint on a soffit above the handicapped ramp. She will update the board on the plans to renovate the audio/visual area.

Other committee reports on Personnel & Finance, Building & Grounds and Policy & Planning are scheduled for the 7 p.m. meeting. The board may resume its discussion of bylaw revisions which began Monday night but was adjourned for lack of agreement on the first two articles.
