Woman Accused of Trying to Smuggle Marijuana into County Jail

A woman visiting an inmate at the county jail in New City was arrested in the jail today on charges she tried to smuggle marijuana to the inmate, according to the .

Tiona Chennel Powell, 20, of Wappingers Falls, was charged with promoting prison contraband, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, at 1:45 p.m. today at the .

The Sheriff's Department said a county corrections officer caught Powell trying to bring the contraband in while on a visit to an inmate. Powell is accused of attempting to smuggle a pouch of marijuana, matches and cigarette rolling papers to the inmate.

She was arrested at the jail and later released pending a Sept. 24 hearing in Clarkstown Town Court in New City.
