Luiz Aragon will start in his new job Feb. 11.

New Rochelle Hires New Development Commissioner

New Rochelle will soon have a new development commissioner.

City Manager Charles B. Strome, III announced Friday the appointment of Luiz C. Aragon as Development Commissioner for the City of New Rochelle, replacing Michael Freimuth, who resigned in September.

Aragon has served as planning commissioner of Sullivan County and deputy commissioner of Preservation and Development for New York City. His expertise includes community development, economic development and revitalization, housing, planning and environmental management.

Strome said the development commissioner is integral to the city’s advancement and that an extensive search was conducted to find the best candidate.

“Mr. Aragon has a distinguished record of accomplishments and I look forward to him joining our staff,” he said. 

As a member of the Mid-Hudson Region Sustainable Consortium, Aragon assisted in the development the regional plan which included a renewable energy strategy that creates jobs while reducing costs. As part of the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council, he reviewed and recommended grant awards for local development councils, including those for the Echo Bay and Sound Shore Medical Center projects.

Aragon will start Feb. 11.
