The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Long Island Chapter Names Danielle Fogarty A Candidate in Its 'Man or Woman of the Year' Campaign

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Long Island Chapter Names Danielle Fogarty A Candidate in Its 'Man or Woman of the Year' Campaign

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), Long Island Chapter, whose mission is to raise awareness of blood cancers and funds to help find a cure, announced today that Danielle Fogarty, LMSW, a Social Worker with United Health Group (New York, NY), has been named a Candidate in its 2013 “Man & Woman of the Year” campaign. The campaign is one of the most critical annual fundraisers for the organization. It consists of an intensive 10-week fundraising effort by a select group of men and women, all competing for the title of “Man or Woman of the Year” which is awarded to the highest male and female fundraisers.

At United Health Group, Danielle serves as a telecommuting
social worker with the UHC Community and State Plan, providing resources and support to New York State residents with chronic illnesses. In addition, she serves as a bereavement therapist at Camp Good Grief through East End Hospice Bereavement each summer, helping bereaved children. She is also a member of the Cutchogue Fire Department. Prior to her current role at United Health Group,
she served at Stony Brook University Medical Center in the Pediatric Oncology and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Danielle’s involvement with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has spanned over 13 years. She is active with its Team In Training program as a participant and mentor, as well as its Light The Night program as a volunteer.

According to Danielle, “I am motivated by people. I am
motivated by the fighters, the survivors, the crusaders, like my Team In Training family. It is as simple as that. Through Team In Training, I have witnessed the human spirit at its finest. Through my job and others that I know that have fought cancer, I have witnessed bravery in t he face of such horrible things. I have often wondered if I could go through what they have gone through as a patient, parent or child. I know that, through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, someday is today, and I am motivated to find a cure so I, and many others, will not have to ever find out.”

Danielle resides in Cutchogue, NY with her husband James and their children, Lillyann and Jillian.
