Monday happy hours kick in this week as Greenport gets ready for its first-annual ‘Shellabration’ event this weekend.

The Week Ahead: Happy Hours, Greatest People, 'Shellabration'

Local bars and restaurants are promoting Monday happy hours this week, now that the season is winding down, and North Fork Patch wants you to tell us who you think should be crowned the “Greatest Person” of 2012:

1. Monday happy hours are being heavily promoted across the North Fork at restaurants and wineries to give locals a kick start to their week. ‘Manic Monday’ happy hour at Four Doors Down in Mattituck happens from 4 to 7 p.m.; Lieb Cellars offers half-price glasses of wine starting at 4 p.m.; get a burger and a beer for $15 at the Love Lane Kitchen; and don’t miss happy hour at “Industry Mondays” at either aMano in Mattituck or the Riverhead Project in Riverhead.

2. Speaking of deals on wine tastings, Winemaker Studio owner Anthony Nappa has a plentiful stock of Red Hook Winery wines at his Peconic tasting room, and he’s ready to liquidate them all to help the Brooklyn winery, which was destroyed after hurricane Sandy last month. Nappa is planning a Red Hook Winery tasting on Dec. 3 at the Winemaker Studio on Peconic Lane from 5 to 9 p.m. in order to sell as much of the wine as possible to raise funds for a possible rebuild at the end of Pier 41 — a location that was completely pummeled when Sandy’s 11- to 16-foot storm surge waves hit.

3. Members of the Southold Town Board meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. for work session and at 7:30 p.m. for a regular meeting. Items on the agenda include as discussion on permitting issues with unpermitted existing structures affected by Hurricane Sandy, a Homeland Security grant purchase of Southold Town Police command van and acquisition of new police vehicles for the department, and economic development committee findings from surveys and meetings with the business community.

4. Don’t miss a seafood and shopping “Shellabration” in Greenport this coming weekend — a two-day benefit restaurant walk to celebrate the bounty of the Peconic Bays. Enjoy clams, oysters and scallops paired with local wines. Participating restaurants will offer tapas tastings for $5, and local wineries will pour pairings for $3. The event wristband is $10 and benefits the Legion Skating Rink Renovation and SPAT (Southold Project in Aquaculture Training). All wristbands MUST be purchased online at www.shellabration.li.

5. It’s that time of year — North Fork Patch is seeking nominations for 2012’s ‘Greatest Person.’ Last year, we compiled a list of the top ten “Greatest People” of 2011, and this year we’d like to do the same but also add a poll to crown the “Greatest Person” of the bunch for 2012. Think about it and send in your picks via email to editor Erin Schultz at erins@patch.com, comment or social media. We’ll narrow down the list then post that along with a poll so you can vote for 2012’s “Greatest Person,” to be crowned on Jan. 1, 2013.
