A 17-year-old girl and her mother suffered serious injuries after a two car collision on Clay Pitts Road and Greenvale Drive on Friday afternoon, said officials. Their identities have not been released.

The two were pulling out of their driveway around 1:50 p.m. near a stop sign at the intersection of Greenvale Drive, when they were hit by an SUV traveling west on Clay Pitts. The 17-year-old was trapped in the front passenger seat of the car and needed to be extricated by East Northport Fire Department personnel, who disentangled and removed the door from its hinges.

The girl was airlifted to Stony Brook University hospital for serious injuries and her mother also taken to Stony Brook by ground transport. The woman in the SUV refused medical treatment and was able to move her car.

The East Northport Fire Department, under the command of First Assistant Chief Joseph Ervin, responded with two ambulances, one rescue truck, and two chiefs. Greenlawn Fire Department and Suffolk ESU also responded to the scene.

Suffolk Police have closed Clay Pitts Road westbound at Drew following a two-car crash with three injured reported at 1:56 p.m. Friday.

The crash occurred at Clay Pitts and Elwood roads in East Northport, according to police, and helicopter and ground rescue units have been called in to assist the injured.
