UPDATE (9 P.M.) - Nyack Fire Department Deputy Chief James Weck of Valley Cottage moved up in the ranks Thursday night as he was named chief of the department.

In the department elections, Battalion Chief Vincent Reid of Valley Cottage moved up to the role of deputy chief and veteran firefighter John Galietta of Nyack was selected as the new battalion chief.

Members of the all-volunteer Nyack Fire Department tonight come together to name the next term of chiefs who will oversee the department's firefighting efforts.

Members of the department's eight companies will be at Upper Nyack School this evening for their election process.

The process leads to naming of the chief, deputy chief and battalion chief. The selection will mark the end of the term of current Chief James Petriello.

The voting for chief is an internal process involving members of the fire department. The selection of chief is separate from the public vote for commissioners of the Nyack Joint Fire District, who oversee the financial operation of the fire department.
