There is no easy way to say this—the Park Slope Children’s Halloween Parade will not happen this year.

Due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy all throughout the city, the parade, which is hosted by the Park Slope Civic Council and runs up Seventh Avenue, is cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

According to the PSCC, in order for the parade to be a success, the NYPD, Department of Sanitation and other city agencies all play a significant part in keeping the annual family friendly event safe, clean and fun. But, with extensive damage from “Frankenstorm,” those agencies are being deployed to parts of the five boroughs hit hardest to start cleanup and aid in recovery.

The PSCC President Michael Cairl was quoted on its website saying that there are more important efforts that need to be focused on:

“Even though the streets in the neighborhood are walkable we felt this was not a priority given needs elsewhere in the City,” said Cairl, “and we agreed to cancel the parade.”

Although the parade will not be rescheduled, Brooklyn can look forward to next year’s, which will be held on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013.
