Stabbing Victim at Dizzy’s Leaves Hospital ‘Alive and Well’

Just six days after an employee was stabbed outside of a Ninth Street diner, the victim was able to go home, the restaurant’s management said.

On Sat., Sept. 1, , stabbing him multiple times in the arms, chest and back on the corner of Ninth Street and Eighth Avenue, police said.

The violent attack took place at around 2:09 a.m. while the 41-year-old employee, a man named Guadalupe Morales, was cleaning up outside the restaurant. The stabbing left Morales unconscious on the sidewalk, cops said.

He was immediately transported to Kings County Hospital where he was in stable condition, and he was released on Thursday in good health, his boss said, who asked not to be identified.

“It’s disturbing and unfortunate that this happened to him,” the boss said. “We are just happy that he’s alive and well and was able to leave the hospital. That’s the most important thing.”

After learning that “Lupe” was the victim, his fellow colleagues put out a donation jar on Dizzy’s counter. The donations jar, which was filled with $300 on Thursday, was actually an idea from one of the regulars, explained the manager, John Hurley.

Hurley, who has worked with Lupe for a year-and-a-half praised him.

“He’s a good guy, hard working and always has a smile on his face,” Hurley said on Thursday. “I get here at 5:45 a.m. and he’s just finishing his shift and he still has his smile on after working all night.”

After the attack occurred, police did not have a motive. But as of Friday, a police source told Patch that they have a person of interest.

“We are now sure who committed this crime,” the source said. “He’ll be arrested very soon.”

As for a motive, the source said that it was most likely an attempted burglary that went wrong.

“We don’t want the neighborhood to be thinking that there is a crazy guy out there hacking people up,” the source said. “It was an attempted larceny that went bad.”
