Assemb. Dean Murray (R-Patchogue) is locked in a tight race with Democrat Edward Hennessey in the 3rd Assembly District.

As of 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, the Suffolk County Board of Elections, with all districts reporting, has Murray leading by 36 votes (17,762-17,726).

Those are unofficial results, however, and the race remains too close for Patch to call.

Murray, a Patchogue resident, took office in 2010 after winning a special election. He won a full two year term later that year.

Hennessey, a lawyer, served on the Brookhaven Town Board for 12 years.

The 3rd Assembly District includes Blue Point, Farmingville, Gordon Heights, Holtsville, Medford and Patchogue.
