Long Island Water Conference Hosts 29th Annual Best-Tasting Water Contest

The Long Island Water Conference (LIWC) will be celebrating the vital role that water plays in daily life and in local communities during National Drinking Water Week, May 4-10.  The LIWC will mark the occasion with their 29th annual Best-Tasting Water Contest, taking place at Farmingdale State College May 5th to May 8th, 2014 from 10 AM-4 PM. 


“The water suppliers on Long Island work hard to ensure that our water is safe and great tasting,” said Michael Levy, Chairman of the Long Island Water Conference.  “National Drinking Water Week is an incredible opportunity for everyone to celebrate our drinking water and have a little fun with it.”


The LIWC will invite students and the general public to sample tap water from several different water suppliers from both Nassau and Suffolk County and vote on which tastes best.  Over two-dozen water suppliers from across Long Island will participate. 


A well-maintained water system is critical to the success of any community.  The local drinking water industry creates jobs, attracts industry and investment, and provides for the health and welfare of citizens in ways ranging from disease prevention to fire suppression.  Many people often take our water resources for granted, but National Drinking Water Week serves as a reminder of how important it is to conserve and protect our natural water supplies. 


“We hope to increase awareness of the drinking water supply so that residents protect the natural resource and do not waste it,” Michael Levy said.  “We want pure, great-tasting water for generations in the future to enjoy as well.”
