Suffolk Police Rescue Disabled Boat in Great South Bay

Suffolk Marine Police rescued two boaters off Fire Island Pines Friday afternoon and brought the boat occupants to safety.

According to a police report, a boat became disabled about 2 p.m. about a half mile north of Fire Island Pines. The day's gale forces and five-foot waves presented poor visibility. Officers Robert Daniels, Daniel Smith, and Kevin Comiskey on Marine Kilo located the 38-foot lobster-style vessel using GPS coordinates. The boat is used for transporting workers to and from Fire Island Pines.

The officers attached a tow line to the disabled vessel and towed it three miles to Brown’s River in Sayville.

The captain of the boat Ramy Latif, 37, of Wantagh, along with his crew member were not injured, according to police.
