As we look back on 2012 in Patchogue/Medford, we are taking a look at some of the top stories of the year. Here's a few of the stories out of Pat-Med Schools this year:

Class of 2012 Graduates

After being postponed by a day due to weather, the Patchogue-Medford High School Class of 2012 got to graduate outside in the school's football stadium. Valedictorian Hanna Lazio included a quick, a capella rap in her speech briefly referencing the Class of 2010 class president's speech. "I want to thank all the teachers for the things they teach... administrators, faculty and staff too because there are so many important things that you do," Lazio rapped. 

Lt. Michael Murphy Honored at PMHS For Induction to Vet's Hall of Fame

Lt. Michael Murphy, the Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient from Patchogue who was killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2005, was honored in March at Patchogue-Medford High School for his posthumous induction into the NYS Veteran's Hall of Fame. 

Board Vote to Keep Middle Schools Open

Three middle schools remain in operation for the 2012-13 school year, as the Board of Education voted in March to keep South Ocean and Oregon middle schools open in a 5-1-1 vote. 

Authentic Learning on Display at Saxton Middle's Ancient Egyptian Exhibition

Saxton Middle School's library was turned into a historic showcase in December as the 6th grade students presented the school's second Ancient Egyptian Exhibition. From pyramids to masks to bumper stickers, the students unleashed their creative sides in creating projects focusing on the lives of ancient Egyptians. 

Pat-Med Robotics Keeps on Giving Back

The Patchogue-Medford High School Robotics Team 329 continued to prove that it can do a lot more than just build award-winning robots as it helped those less fortunate in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
