St. Joseph's College in Patchogue is now serving as a Red Cross shelter for evacuees from Hurricane Sandy.

The county--in conjunction with the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army-- has consolidated shelters set up after the storm as power outages are being restored.

"As outages are being addressed, and housing resources increasingly become available, the previously urgent need for multiple emergency shelters across the county is diminishing," a county release states.

More than 150 people were housed in the St. Joseph's gymnasium Tuesday night, according to Vanessa B. Streeter, a spokeswoman for County Executive Steve Bellone.

With a Nor'easter baring down on the area Wednesday, power outages may rack up once again.
