Pearl River Football Beats Yonkers

Three Pearl River juniors turned in big games to help the Pirates win their first game of the season, 28-0 over Yonkers at Gorton High School Saturday.

Junior quarterback Chris Van Houten threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score for the Pirates, who improved to 1-1 on the season.

Van Houten's first touchdown pass was a 45-yarder in the first quarter to junior Joe Wholey, who had 53 yards rushing and 48 as a receiver in the first half.

Van Houten pushed the Pirates' advantage to 14-0 with a 13-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. He threw a 10-yard scoring pass to Kevin Considine in the third quarter.

In addition to catching a touchdown pass, Considine had three sacks and recovered a fumble. He now has five sacks and two fumble recoveries through two games this season.

Next up for Pearl River is the battle for the Little Brown Jug 1:30 p.m. Saturday Sept. 22 at Nanuet. The Pirates have won the last two meetings of the neighborhood rivalry.
